40 yrs ago today, “The Manhattan Project” opened in theaters, telling the story of a gifted high school student (Christopher Collet) who on a whim decides to build a functional atomic bomb using unclassified scientific literature and plutonium he steals from a scientist’s (John Lithgow) secret lab.
One thing has led to another, and now I have a folder full of news headlines about people getting beaten off. I offer no apology at all.
Some people seem to be having a hard time accepting that if one wants to use a technology in research and comply with scientific integrity guidelines, one needs knowledge & expertise both abt technology & scientific integrity.
Since when would doing science with integrity not require expertise?
I think I’m in the annoy everyone camp.
Yes, defence spending needs to rise faster than the proposed timeline suggests but the vision set-out in the Defence Review is unrealistic and avoids hard choices. Plus defence procurement is still a mess and the MOD is often a financial blackhole.
