The only orchid you will find on the Breidden. Gill and I always used to look out for it every year and even though she’s gone now it’s nice to have these little constant things popping up in life that we shared. It’s a Common-spotted Orchid.
A gusty morning on the Breidden hills looking out over home in the Severn/Vyrnwy confluence. The rain and cloud clinging to the distant Berwyn mountains, as it usually does here, and leaving us dry.

Broken snail shells around a Song Thrush’s anvil stone used to break them open & a close up of the anvil with crushed shell. Recent research here www.researchgate.net/publication/... has shown that other species of bird will digest the shell fragments at anvil sites to improve calcium intake.
