Very excited to be sharing our new paper, just out in Nature Cell Biology!
The big question we investigate: How do migrating cells put their front 🔴 and back 🔵 in the right place?
Another close microbial relative of animals aggregates! The discovery of aggregative multicellularity in Ministeria, with some really cool transcriptomics.
Check out our new paper where we doubbling the known diversity of Developea (Stramenopiles) with 8 new species and 2 new genera. Some have multiflagellated stages and self-aggregations! Some are omnivorous (i.e. survive on either eukaryotic or prokaryotic prey)!

Repost please !! We have extended the abstract deadline for the 2026 Santa Cruz Developmental Biology Conference to June 20. scdb2026.sites.ucsc.edu. Get those abstract in !
"Humbled to receive this recognition. This belongs as much to my team, my family, & to my home, Palestine: the people, the place, the joyful stubbornness to enjoy life."
Cheers buddy @gautamdey.bsky.social
Thx to my mentors @sophiemartinlab.bsky.social, @paveltomancak.bsky.social, & Pierre Gönczy.
Science really takes a village. Thrilled to share this with my friend @dudinlab.bsky.social, and with our brilliant and fearless teams, our collaborators around the world and our mentors - in my case a special shoutout to Buzz Baum, Jan Ellenberg and @monicabettencourt.bsky.social.

Two great scientists and humans, whose collaboration shows what it’s like to do science as a positive-sum game. Wonderful news for evolutionary cell biology and for you two @dudinlab.bsky.social @gautamdey.bsky.social! 👏

📢 We are looking for a Junior Group Leader to join us at @institutcurie.bsky.social!
Having joined the department just over a year ago, I can honestly say that it is an exceptionally stimulating and supportive scientific environment, filled with outstanding colleagues — all in the heart of Paris.
After a long hiatus, happy #MicroscopyMonday! Here are some amoebae squeezing themselves into narrow channels (part of a video for our preprint pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41377514/).
Sound effects by Dillon (my 4 month old who may have had a little to do with the bluesky hiatus!)

For decades, cellular aggregation was considered an evolutionary dead end.
Cells could come together temporarily.
But complex multicellular organisms like animals?
Our study, led by JP Gerdt, with Ruibao & @jennahed.bsky.social suggests it may be time to rethink that🧵 #ProtistsOnSKy
