What does it look like when science crosses borders? 🌍
Over the past five years, JNCC has worked alongside 11 countries, the MMO and @cefasgovuk.bsky.social through the Ocean Country Partnership Programme - delivering impact far beyond individual projects

With participants joining in person and online from across science, industry and government, the week focused on building a clearer, shared understanding of these complex interactions.
#MarineScience
Key areas of work included:
🔷 Impacts on fishing operations & coastal communities.
🔷 Changes to ecosystems & fish populations.
🔷 Implications for data, monitoring & survey design.

The result is lasting: stronger governance, greater capability, and meaningful progress for people and nature across our shared ocean
This #WorldOceanDay, it’s a reminder of what 35 years of JNCC expertise can achieve when it’s shared 🌊
💪Together, we’ve supported countries to designate and manage Marine Protected Areas in line with the global 30x30 ambition
We’ve strengthened science-policy, enhanced preparedness for marine pollution incidents & developed long-lasting data systems
A highlight was visiting the pelagic vessel Unity and speaking with fishermen in Fraserburgh – grounding the science in real-world experience.
🙏 Thanks to the Scottish White Fish Producers' Association and the Scottish Fishermen's Federation for making this possible.
Bringing together expertise from organisations across the world showed what’s possible when we work together for our ocean 💙

🔷 Approaches to support coexistence between offshore wind & fisheries.
🔷 Emerging challenges, including decommissioning.
Strengthening the evidence base is critical for informed decisions.

Last week, JNCC hosted the @icesmarine.bsky.social Working Group on Offshore Wind Development & Fisheries in Aberdeen 🌊
A global community came together to explore a shared challenge: how offshore wind & fisheries interact in our changing seas.
