Our climate‑warming experiment on wood‑decomposing fungi is finally running! Testing how different wood decomposing fungi populations respond to warming—thanks to the new climate chambers at TU Dresden Tharandt.

#BIOCOMP Module 2 is now set up in Spain. Logs are in place, nature takes over, and fresh data is on the horizon. Module 2 examines fungi-insect interactions and their effects on wood decomposition across different climatic zones.

Quite the decomposition...😄
End-of-year thrill! TU Dresden's Tharandt campus now has 5 state-of-the-art climate chambers to power our BIOCOMP module 3 experiment.
Huge thanks to the EU & Freistaat Sachsen via EFRE InfraProNet for funding "KlimaWald - Aufbau klimastabiler Waldökosysteme"!

@biocomp-erc.bsky.social During the second phase - the installation of the insect trap, we found the very first closed cage bunch. Location: Mongolia, unmanaged forest site NUM-Forest Station.
Happy to share some captures with digital twins of one of the standing trees, ground deadwood and even the decomposition experiment from @biocomp-erc.bsky.social sites. Scan: FJD S2 Max, Processing: Virtsilv algorithms

We just started setting up a new #BIOCOMP site in Budongo Forest, Uganda. Thank you @shamikroy.bsky.social and @sebseibold.bsky.social for the possibility to contribute!
We rounded up fieldwork for 2025 with #BIOCOMP forest inventory at our Ankasa field site in Ghana. Of course, we didn't leave without a splash in River Ankasa and a spontaneous stop at the beach. 😀🌴
It's been a remarkable year for my group.
