When economist Dean Baim reviewed the finances of several stadiums in the 1990s he included Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium among venues "that were so ill advised that they not only fail to cover their fixed costs, but are running operating losses as well."
With the World Cup happening in Atlanta, I'm seeing some misplaced nostalgia for the decision to build Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Folks, it was a colossal boondoggle. When it was demolished in 1997, $11 million were still owed on the bonds.
