Not a doctor, but my understanding is that the risk/benefit ratio of topical antihistamines isn't as great vs., say, topical corticosteroids. I'm very glad it helped you, though!
Did anyone suggest oral 2nd-gen antihistamines (e.g., Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra)? I've personally found those helpful.
