To enter your submissions, email them to us on [email protected]. To have a look at last year's entries, then follow the link here: patchworkchallenge.blogspot.com/2026/01/best... The prize for the top three submissions will be a Patchwork Challenge pin badge. Happy birding!!
At the end of June, we will start compiling your submissions for the first half of #PWC2026 best find competition. Like last year's comp, it will be judged by the public on why that patch find was special to you. All we ask for is a brief write-up, a paragraph or two, and a picture if you have one.
Gold on the 10km patch this morning. Heard this chap belting out his song, what a treat. #birdinglothian #birdingscotland #PWC2026

First summer male Rosefinch singing along the east road of Papay this morning @patchbirding.bsky.social #BirdingOrkney

Context is everything in local birding and by far the rarest bird of this week so far is this Canada Goose which appeared briefly on the loch below the house this afternoon. House ✔️ #141 Only the sixth Westray record (my fourth) as it remains rare in the Orkney North Isles. #WestrayBirding #PWC2026
Some excitement at St Fittick's Park this morning. Cuckoos are rare migrants here, normally juveniles in late summer, so an adult in June was unprecedented. Perhaps it was interested in this Reed Warbler, which was my first here for seven years. #BirdingScotland #PatchBirding #UKWildlife #Birds

Stanford Reservoir - 2 late May additions to #PWC2026 on Saturday with Spot Fly & House Sparrow (rare here). Also, a Curlew spent most of the day on the dam. Total at end of May 134 species, 183 points. @lrosbirds.bsky.social
Pectoral Sandpiper on Rimac car park scrape, Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes NNR, today (when it was being chased off by Lapwings!). A Temminck's Stint joined later, and a fly-over Glossy Ibis made for a good morning #patchbirding #lincsbirding #ukbirding
