Riddings Junction - & the trackbed of the "Waverley Route" as it began its long climb up across the Border from England to Whitrope Summit in Scotland. The line opened in 1862 & closed in 1969; the Langholm Branch to the left had closed in 1967. Pic taken with landowner's consent. #railways
Today I am mostly inspecting Riddings Viaduct - here in England looking across the water to Scotland. Taking the Canonbie branch line across Liddel Water it opened in 1864 & closed in 1967.
A very wet Pennine day : the Bentham line approaching Settle Junction heading east on the "Little" North Western from the window of the Northern Trains service to Leeds from Lancaster. @semaphoria.co.uk #railways #wet #trains
Even as a native Lancastrian I'd have to admit that today my home county is - damp. Judging Lancaster station & a trio of trains. #railways #architecture #heritage #rain
A rainbow to end a cool, brisk and breezy day in Otley, West Yorkshire, UK. #otley #yorkshire #rainbow #nature #weather #photography
ca.May 1924 Edinburgh Corporation's 'popular chara-a-banc tours' and tram services from the city's Official Guide. The tours were the origins of the Transport Dept's popular sightseeing tours. The tramways show the recent conversion from cable & the merger with the Leith system. @threadinburgh.scot
It's ten years to the day since Transport for London officially launched the new version of our Johnston typeface J100 to celebrate the centenary of the introduction of the original. Commissioned by Frank Pick & designed by calligrapher Edward Johnston we were joined by surviving family members.
Covers to the ca.1905 "Summer Tours in Scotland & England" issued jointly by the London & North Western and Caledonian Railways giving details of the many destinations, excursions & tourist fares. The artwork shows the period love of colourful graphics. ↘️ flic.kr/p/2sgXzcZ
It's been a stormy start to summer here in the Pennines : twilight clouds over Otley, West Yorkshire, this evening. Good night to all. #weather #sky #twilight #photography #nature
After a weekend leading tours on my 'old patch' I'm feeling all London TransporT. Safe to say we don't do this on Underground tours now but this pic of the last trip of the iconic 38-Tube Stock in 1978 was taken by an operating official. Mill Hill East, Northern line.
