These glaciers had been pretty stable over the last few decades, and even growing slightly in some cases, but this most recent study indicates that summer heatwaves across the region have more than offset winter snowfalls, leading to a quadrupling of mass loss in the last few years 🥵

Interviewed yesterday on @bbc5live.bsky.social about glacier shrinkage in the Pamir mountains, central Asia. An area that, up to just a few years ago, had been characterised by relative glacier stability and even growth ❄️🤒 Even these last stalwarts now falling in line with global trend of shrinkage
