supporting community was central to us when we started Mythium Literary Journal (rest in peace) in 2008. we had nationally known writers but was the first to feature many, such as Kiese Laymon. meanwhile, we turned down more established writers sending us their slop, thinkin we'd be happy to have it

i mean, i have friends who are nationally known, award-winning writers who i would trust with AND defend with my life - who (to my knowledge) have never read a sentence of my work. friendships more important than supporting craft are usually more cult than they are community.
