I sometimes wish I believed in the academic pursuit of knowledge as little as these guys do or as little as academia seems to believe in me.
It would be easier, I guess.
Exploration companies rely heavily on the work the USGS does, which is why refusing to fund the USGS is really bad for mineral exploration. Small companies especially can’t afford to do the initial district scale work needed to narrow down where to find deposits. So no USGS $, means less exploration

The fact that this kind of random group (I'd never heard if them before now) put out a statement about the planned 'descoping' AND NOT #OOI ITSELF. *really* says something about the state of deep sea science rn.
When was it announced that Marcia McNutt was being replaced as head of NASEM?? HOW did I miss that?!
I'll be totally honest, I haven't really seen any statements about this *at all* (please correct me if I'm wrong...I would love to be wrong!) from ANY science-aligned groups. 😱💀
