When I was a dumb babyqueer I made the mistake of complaining to a 50 something gay coworker about a “Pride cake” at work and this guy, who came of age during the AIDS crisis, looks me square in the eye and says
“Shut up and eat your cake”

The “Deloitte Pride Float” was good specifically because it did not represent a strong institutional commitment to LGBT rights and was instead a somewhat insincere attempt to court the favor of the LGBT community. I struggle to understand a theory of mind for people who didn’t get that.
