We start our 2nd day in Budapest with Szent István-bazilika or St. Stephen's Basilica. It is named in honour of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose right hand is housed in the reliquary. #bearinBudapest

We’ve already walked 10 km today, mostly uphill. We’re taking a break in a Biergarten before we head back downhill. Cheers. #bearinBudapest #smallbearsneedbeer
Buda Castle, the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings. Severely damaged in WW II and rebuilt in a simplified Baroque style during the state communist era. It’s a bit chaotic, especially with new renovations underway. We visited the refurbished St Stephens Hall. #bearinBudapest
Human regrets the decision to explore on foot. Just a few more steps to reach the Fisherman’s Bastion. Come on, you can do it. #bearinBudapest
The Castle Garden Bazaar was designed by Miklós Ybl and it was built between 1875 and 1883 to please Elisabeth (Sissi), Queen of Hungary. #bearinBudapest
From the bridge, there is a fantastic view of the majestic Hungarian Parliament. #travellingbear #bearinBudapest
Sándor Palace, the residence of the president of Hungary. Side entrance. We watched a changing of the guards. #bearinBudapest

Matthias Church was used as a coronation church by Hungarian kings for centuries but was also a mosque for over 150 years by the Ottoman Turks. In the early 19th century the church was restored in Neo-Gothic style by Frigyes Schulek. #bearinBudapest

Although we arrived behind schedule, we still managed to make it to the Danube. This is the Széchenyi-Lánchíd Bridge, officially opened in 1849. At the time, it was the first permanent bridge in Hungary and, at 202 metres in length, one of the longest bridges in the world. #travellingbear
