In Isle of Man today to support Alex Allinson MHK for what is likely to be the final stage of his Assisted Dying Bill. It’s a joint sitting of their Lower & Upper Houses, known as Tynwald Court. An efficient way to discharge democracy! #YesToDignity
The Isle of Man has today taken its final legislative step towards securing Royal Assent for Dr Alex Allison’s Assisted Dying Bill, after Tynwald voted by a 3:1 majority for all remaining amendments. #YesToDignity

"There are a lot of people living in very fearful, very difficult situations - either themselves or their family members - who are just wanting us as politicians to do our job and follow through on the legislation that has been supported already. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...
"I believe it undermines public trust in our democracy more widely if we cannot deliver on a measure that is supported by a very large majority of voters in all parts of the country.”

Quite right. Every week change is delayed, people are dying without the choice and protection they need. The majority of MPs tonight made clear they agree: the Bill must come back, the Government must act and the will of the Commons must be respected.

Lauren Edwards' decision ensures that this vital conversation can continue. Every day, dying people are forced to endure suffering they would not choose, while others take desperate measures because the law offers them no safe, compassionate alternative. They deserve better.
Lauren Edwards MP has confirmed that she will reintroduce the assisted dying bill as a Private Members’ Bill in the House of Commons.
Her decision reflects the strong public and cross-party support for the bill, which passed in the House of Commons this time last year.

It is a great privilege to have come second in the ballot for Private Member’s Bills. After giving the matter a great deal of thought, I will be reintroducing the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. You can read my full statement on this here or on my website: buff.ly/I78DfUX
Strong statement from my good friend & neighbour @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social
She’s bang on
The Commons settled our view after an extraordinarily high level of scrutiny & debate compared to most Bills
The Lords talked it out without a single substantive vote
This is now a constitutional issue
Fantastic news. Well done to @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social for doing this. No doubt all those who approved of the Lords filibustering will be affronted, but many of us will be delighted, and grateful. This Bill needs to pass. #AssistedDyingBill
