Similarly, PM2.5 which can originate from nearby buses or even craft supplies, is small enough to enter the bloodstream directly through the lungs, triggering inflammatory responses that hinder a student’s ability to focus. School management must anticipate these issues & assess & plan accordingly.
Every child deserves to be safe from illness in school. The quality of air within a school is not merely a background condition; it is a critical variable in the biological and cognitive functioning of every child and every member of school staff.
It is time to move beyond the idea of air as an invisible void and to recognise it as a complex mixture of gases and particles that directly interacts with human physiology.
When schools prioritize pollutant education, they transition from reactive cleaning to proactive management.
Thank you for attending @cleanairie.bsky.social . It was so great to have you all at the Inaugural postgrad week. Together we can advocate for better and cleaner air.🌬️🍃🫁🙏

For example, CO2 is often used as a proxy for ventilation adequacy; high levels in a crowded classroom don’t just indicate “stale” air, but a build-up of exhaled bio-effluents that can lead to lethargy and headaches.
Very excited to see the issue of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) will be discussed at the European Parliament in June!
Registration available here: synairg.eu/event/synair...
This roundtable discussion promises to raise awareness among EU policymakers & local authorities about the importance of improving IAQ in schools for the health and well-being of children.
Sign up and spread the word to keep your public representatives and local authorities informed.
We celebrate @goaqs.bsky.social plan for Schools which is a global intervention to transform school environments from passive shelters to active health-protective zones. This strategy is based on stringent air quality standards being maintained at levels that protect the most Clinically Vulnerable.

CAAI were very happy to be invited to @uniofgalway.bsky.social Postgrads & Sustainability Showcase hosted by the Students Union. This #FridayAirday features great CO2 readings from a lecture room in the University.
