Cities' abundant hard surfaces funnel rainfall quickly into drains and sewers. During a deluge, sewage can overflow into rivers. Today my local authority fitted a free water butt in my London garden. It's already busy collecting, and I'm a bit obsessed...within an hour it had this much, and rising
