I say at the end of this episode, the risk when talking about racist football lads itching to start a race war is that they've never gone away. I fully expected something to happen over the summer because of how many powerful people are pushing for it, but not the same bloody day.

A lot of this stuff could have been avoided if more mainstream/influential liberal institutions had simply told these people to Fuck Off much sooner
You will recall, less than a year ago, British police were instructed to disclose the ethnicity of suspects of crime as an explicit sop to the far-right after their last attempt to gin up pogroms. Our then-Home Secretary, now Foreign Secretary, lauded the move. Do we think this helped.

We are here quite literally because of groups like Combat 18 who forged links between Ulster Unionist Paramilitaries and British Neo-Nazis, and now extending to the “Republican” far right. Tommy Robinson operates on a distinct lineage of people like Will Browning and the Sargent brothers.

I was thinking the other day about the BBC putting a little explainer on their Website about how *some* people believe Englishness can't be acquired by naturalisation, or even (this may shock you) by being born here... and it struck me, that's literally the BNP manifesto.

Watching Stephenson at the equalities commission yesterday, and thinking about both @juliaserano.bsky.social recent article on transphobes and gametes, and some things @gregk.co.uk said on the most recent @trashfuture.bsky.social about permission structures.

Myself and Tom would both have preferred if this episode hadn’t been quite as timely as it ended up being dropping on the specific day that it did with the events that unfolded just a few hours later but then I suppose there was a reason we thought this story was worth telling.
