_**The Grateful Dead - ‘75 Grooves Regrooved**_ _**(**__**Vol. 1**_ _**/**__**Vol. 2**_ _**)**_ Like a lot of Dead freaks, I’ve been spending some time swimming around in the deep end of the 1975 Ace’s Sessions, which showed up in new/improved form a few months back. You can do the same by downloading all 24 hours of this unreal stash on the Save Your Face blog. **_The details from SYF:_** At long last, the chaotic, circulating tapes from these sessions have been sorted into a uniform, complete collection. A devoted band of fan-archivists discovered approximately 24 hours of unique material on the tapes — eliminating duplications, identifying the best source for each minute, and solidifying the dating of all material. As a result, listeners and scholars can now follow the Dead’s creative process across the year, from protean ideas through (and beyond) the recording of _Blues for Allah_ , packed with additional hours of music that was only ever played in these sessions. A true labor of love — huge shoutouts to the crew who assembled it all. Most recently, I’ve been enjoying the Save Your Face _Regrooved_ compilations, which present “heavily edited” versions of some of the tastiest jams that emerged from Ace’s. It’s hard to know exactly what to call the music that the Dead was making at this point; they really do seem to be searching for some brand-new hybrid of jazz, rock and folk. Fusion, but not “fusion.” Wherever the band ended up, it’s a treat to hear them find their way.
