It's been an honour to work on this issue, and we hope it contributes to future research on both grief and human-technology interactions. We're already starting on our next projects in that domain, so watch this space!
The papers in our issue explore the impact of a wide range technologies - from AI chatbots to online memorials, video games, and beyond - on experieriences and practices of grief. It's especially pleasing to see so many different perspectives, discourses and disciplines in dialogue across the issue.
I argue that Merleau-Ponty is right, because how we are in the world - how we inhabit, produce, make sense of meaning - is characterised by dynamics that we can call synaesthetic. Synaesthesia sheds light on cognition more broadly in reminding us of the latter's rich complexity and idiosyncrasy.
You can read the paper at rdcu.be/eVYX5 and find a non-paywalled version on my PhilPapers (philpeople.org/profiles/mar...). Feel free to email for a copy as well!
Sydney friends! Emily and I are thrilled to be launching the paperback edition of our book at Better Read than Dead on the 28th of March, and we would absolutely love to have you there! We'll be on from 6pm, and will joined by the magnificent Annie Sandrussi. All welcome - please register here:

I'm excited to share my last paper of 2025, which is out now in Human Studies. This one means a lot to me, as I draw on my own experience of synaesthesia in grappling with Merleau-Ponty's claim that 'synaesthetic perception is the rule'. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
I'm thrilled to announce that the Special Issue of Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences on 'Grief and the Digital Age' that the wonderful @reginafabry.bsky.social and I have co-edited is now complete! You can find the 12 papers and our editorial intro here: link.springer.com/collections/...
Want to know what 'enactivism' is? Consider reading my new paper, 'What is Enactivism?', open access in Adaptive Behavior! journals.sagepub.com/doi/epub/10.... Short version: It's what Varela, Thompson & Rosch said it was in 'The Embodied Mind' ages ago. Slightly longer version... 1/
