Other talented young filmmakers passed on the Bond franchise. Folks who went on to make great movies. It's a creative dead end. There's no creative leeway.

One the one hand, Spielberg would have chaffed under the Broccoli's control.
On the other hand, we could have had a Spielberg Bond Film in the eighties instead of having the series calcify throughout the eighties under JOHN FREAKING GLEN!!!
