This olive, found by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust volunteers, is so pale because it's recently moulted. Riverfly larvae undergo a number of moults as they grow. Each stage between moults is called an 'instar'. At the start of an instar, before the exoskeleton hardens, the larva is pale and soft. 🌟
