South Cambridgeshire has just had the 2nd driest April and hottest May bank holiday on record. Climate change impacts - harvest failures, worsening drought, deadly heatwaves - are here now. The transition away from fossil fuels is not a political nice-to-have, it is now a necessity.
The transition to secure, green and affordable energy requires action nationally, regionally and locally - and that's where community energy comes in.
Lib Dems are calling for communities to have the power to buy and sell energy locally, and to benefit fairly when they host renewable infrastructure.
The new report from @thecccuk.bsky.social is a wake-up call, and the UK is not ready for it. Extreme heat is one of the deadliest consequences of climate change. Cooling must become the norm in our hospitals, schools and workplaces. One avoidable death from extreme heat is one too many.
I’ve signed an Early Day Motion calling on the Government to level with the British public about the true extent of the climate and nature crisis. The public deserves to understand what is at stake for climate and nature and people’s lives and livelihoods.
Ed Davey is absolutely right. The idea that North Sea drilling will bring down your energy bills is fantasy — prices are set on volatile global markets.
The real answer is investing in homegrown British renewables, so we're never again held hostage to market shocks or foreign dictators.

The @libdems.org.uk could make some more noise on their historic result in South Cambridgeshire. A decade ago there were *nearly 40 Tory councillors* on SCambs DC. Today? Two. @markpackuk.bsky.social @pippaheylings.bsky.social It should be a much bigger story given the history.
