Shifting how we power vehicles away from gasoline & diesel fuel & instead powering more of our vehicles by electricity, makes the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, or other oil supply shocks, much less powerful as an economic weapon. Decarbonization is a national security strategy, & it’s a big one.

In the continental U.S., oil powers less than 1% of electricity. We don’t use oil to make electricity in the continental U.S. When we shift powering our cars with oil to electricity, we stop using oil for transportation. Since we can make electricity from lots of clean sources, we increase security.
