Fossil fuel lobbyists are pushing hard for CCS to protect their polluting profits, when our money would be much better spent on cheap, safe renewable energy like wind and solar. What do you think?
BREAKING: Greenpeace activists have CONFRONTED a piece of Shell drilling equipment that is getting ready to extract oil in UK waters - even though Shell DON’T HAVE LEGAL PERMISSION to drill Why is Shell IGNORING high court rulings that FORBID them from extracting oil at Rosebank?
📈 The UK’s Carbon Capture and Storage plans will actually increase our emissions. More than half of planned CCS+gas projects involve building NEW gas plants, which could emit up to to 5 million tons of CO2 annually. That’s the equivalent to 2.6 million more petrol cars!
🤑 Would you donate to save the fossil fuel industry? Nah, we wouldn't either, but that doesn't matter – the govt has already committed £22bn and counting of your money to a tech that's meant to reduce emissions but is actually a lifeline for oil and gas. Outraged? Share this!
🥵 Our energy bills will rise to pay for the £408 billion investment necessary for CCS to work. The government’s own Public Accounts Committee has criticised the Treasury for not properly assessing the financial impact of CCS on the public.
🤨 Investing £22billion of public money in a technology with a track record of failure is NOT going to help the UK achieve its climate goals, or create good green jobs. Here’s why (thread):
💸 If this CCS investment creates the promised 4,000 jobs (big IF!), that works out to £5million per job!
The UK just committed £22bn to carbon capture and storage – a tech with an 80% failure rate that lets oil & gas greenwash their emissions. At this CCS conference, most speakers repped fossil fuel companies. Share if you think it's absurd we're funding tech that protects fossil fuel profits 🙃
