I think the challenge with masculinity discourse is that there is still a segment of tasks/duties that are risky in a way that is distinctly male-coded and which are prosocial, and you do want there to be a general societal premium to encourage men to undertake them. They're just fewer than before.
I think there’s maybe a little more to it than that- we had a discussion about smokejumpers the other day, which is an job/hobby/avocation that is both prosocial and specifically nuts in a way I feel is profoundly masculine- but broad strokes I believe this is to correct

But people keep saying: Is that all there is? Is masculinity just being a certain kind of decent person plus superficial trappings like facial hair. Yes, that's it. If that interests you, go for it! If not, there are so many other options.
