I've heard from Indigenous leaders, including members of my own Nation, who feel they have more direct engagement with the Carney govt than they experienced under Trudeau.
Reconciliation should be judged by relationships, meaningful engagement &outcomes, not fear, assumptions or political rhetoric.
There are things this government is doing that deserve attention and criticism, particularly around consultation, clean water, and Indigenous rights.
But disagreement with government policy does not automatically prove contempt or bad faith. And Indigenous peoples are not a monolith.
The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs in Alberta is calling on the RCMP and the Auditor General to investigate whether Premier Danielle Smith and the UCP government have committed treason under the criminal code. It's over the premier's handling of a referendum on separation.
