Since the June 2025 immigration sweeps began, protest-related press freedom violations documented by the Tracker have been overwhelmingly tied to immigration enforcement.
Incidents peaked in June 2025, and have risen and fallen since then, but have remained higher than past levels.

The @pressfreedomtracker.us data show that California accounts for the largest share of documented incidents over the past year, followed by Illinois, New Jersey, Minnesota and Oregon.
