Character creation was time-consuming. Combat took forever. Nothing seemed to have been playtested. It wasn't difficult: just half-assed, poorly thought out, and SLOW.
People trash CP2020 for the same reasons, which is nuts to me. You want an overly complex TTRPG from the same era? Shadowrun, baby
Another day, another person claiming that playing Rifts required advanced algebra or whatever. The Palladium system wasn't good, but Rifts was no more complicated than AD&D 1E. Not impossible to play, just poorly designed. I'm convinced that most of the people who claim that they played it are lying
