The #WorldCup has started so I thought it might be fun to post a famous site/relic from each country playing in the World Cup.
Today is ALGERIA 🇩🇿 . This is the mausoleum of King Juba II and his wife, Cleopatra, daughter of THE Cleopatra and Mark Anthony. It’s about 60m across and 32m high.

This little guy looks like someone surprised him while he was frolicking naked at the office. This solid gold (and, er, quite male) figure from the Tolima culture of Colombia wears a large feathered headdress, ear plugs, stacks of bracelets, and a nose ring. 🏺 1/

The setting sun casts its final light across the ruins of Byland Abbey, one of Yorkshire's former monastic houses. Once centres of worship, learning, agriculture, industry and charity many of their buildings were left to decay, leaving ruins such as these to remain as lasting monuments .

In 1902 a farmer ploughed up this bronze horse at Trundholm, Denmark.
Thinking it was an old toy he took it home for his children! 😱
On closer inspection he contacted the National Museum.

The summit cairn of Corn Du at 871 metres (2,864ft) in Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons.
Thank you for sharing @cultarchaeo.bsky.social I especially enjoyed “People dramatically underestimate what thousands of organized humans can accomplish when they are adequately fed, aggressively supervised, and denied alternative career paths.”
The wonderful story of "Ferdinand the Bull" by Munro Leaf is about peace, acceptance and contentedness. He also wrote "Gordon the Goat" about the ability to think for yourself.
Make a difference this Friday! 😊
