Look, Middlemarch is a great novel. It complexly mediates class conflict, the commodification of all life, emerging ideological structures in Victorian capitalism. I just personally think it’s more impressive when a novel does that through a story about a guy who hates a weird fish.

Somehow I missed the charming detail that Lyndsey Fifield falsely claimed to have insider info that the Tufts student who was abducted and imprisoned solely for writing an op-ed in the student newspaper (as revealed in state dept’s own memos!) was a terrorist.
Shows how different the view is on here vs Maine. classic Chotiner mark is so deep in a bubble they've never been pushed. Platner's a gun-owning, pro immigrant & trans rights, anti-ICE, marine vet, dem soc doing nonstop town halls in a weird state. Fine to hate him ofc but he can answer a question.
