The Coalition's push before the 3rd Review Conference in September is clear: 1- Accelerate ratifications, 2- Encourage accessions, 3- Mobilize States Parties to actively engage their neighbors. Stronger stigma = stronger protection for civilians.
The Cluster Munition Coalition campaigner Vidya Abhayaa from Sri Lanka is on the ground this week, a voice from the Asia-Pacific region itself, holding bilateral meetings with delegations from Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste and Tonga.
Reports allege cluster munitions were used by Malian or Russian forces in northern Mali 🇲🇱
If confirmed: this would be the first alleged use by a State Party since 2010.

On 30 May 2026, the Convention on Cluster Munitions marks 18 years since its adoption in Dublin in 2008. And today, the Regional Workshop on Universalisation of the CCM for Asia and Pacific States is ongoing in Vientiane, Lao PDR, hosted by the Lao PDR Presidency of the 3rd Review Conference.
India is still producing cluster munitions and antipersonnel mines.
