Two and a half years after the Washington Bridge on Interstate 195 West was suddenly shut down, disrupting travel throughout southern New England, construction to build a brand new bridge began Wednesday.
Demolition of the old bridge that carried Interstate 195 westbound - and construction of the new one - will cost about $570 million.
