The first computer I used was Nimrod, against which I won a game of Nim at the Science Museum during their Festival of Britain Exhibition. (Not me in the pic, and it's not difficult to win if you know how nim works!) +ALT

Victorian Turkish Baths
Here's Deen's Brighton baths in 1822. But 'shampooing’ originally meant a shampooer (aka a rubber) giving a full body-wash & massage—now used in this sense only in the context of Victorian #Turkishbaths. According to the OED, the modern use referring to washing one’s hair isn't much older than 1860.
#onthisday, 9 June 1932, the St James Street Public Baths opened at 72 Waterdale, #Doncaster. In the basement were #TurkishBaths (2/6d) comprising cooling-room, 3 hot rooms (125-200°F), shampooing room, a Russian vapour bath (1/6d), & 'sun ray treatments' (1/6d). The baths closed in 2013. 🗃️ #C19th
Everyone knows the Romans loved frequenting the baths. But did you know they probably invented the world's oldest shower shoes to protect their toesies from the hot hot floors? 🏺🧪

(Walker Art Gallery)
Floor mosaic from Rome with the head of Medusa at the centre. Dating to the 1st to 2nd century AD, the mosaic is part of the National Roman Museum Collection, and on display at the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme in Rome. 📷 My own. #MosaicMonday #Rome
The Romans were the first to wear clog-style footwear to the baths to protect their feet from the hot floor and to better navigate slippery surfaces.
