Sam was friends with my PhD advisor and walked in seconds into my 1st patch clamp recording. He offered sincere congrats, connecting authentically. I’m happy to see that even his political rivals recognize how authentic Sam is. Victories come & go. Sustain the fight. I’m grateful for Sam’s work.
There are a bunch of people at the NIH that are working hard under challenging circumstances to keep US research moving on the extramural side. I'm thankful for all of the work they do.
This is Humphrey. I guess I’ll do work on the laptop some other time. #caturday
Me: I see you need a new imaging system. Would you like an LLSM, ExLLSM, LLSM-PAINT, SIM, ISM, LLS-SIM, SMLM/SPT, AO-ISM, AO-LLSM, or an AO-LLS-SIM? You: Yes. Me: Good. Here are the pieces. Beautiful work by Upadhyayula, Legant, Betzig, and many other excellent people. doi.org/10.1038/s415...
When the James Webb space telescope was moved from California to French Guiana, it was in an unmarked container (to avoid PIRATES!) which functioned as a mobile clean room: "no more than 100 airborne particles greater than or equal to 0.5 microns in size" www.freightwaves.com/news/james-w... (1/2)

Mythbusters is my kids’ favorite show (10 yo and 6 yo). The show was canceled before they were born, but it resonates. Empiricism. Even above rigor, empiricism. Thank you to everyone who helped create this show. labrigger.com/blog/2014/01...
How can light precisely control neural activity? 🧠💡 This review from RIKEN & Science Tokyo, published in #Neurophotonics, outlines advances in two‑photon optogenetic stimulation, enabling targeted activation of neurons with high spatial precision. ⚛️ 🔗: https://bit.ly/3PEnbCo
FN > 45 Whatever objective you use, Ventana imaging systems will get more field-of-view out of it, with full NA, and diffraction limited. The best ever for multiphoton / two-photon. And fast! 16,000 - 24,000 lines/s across the full field of view. pacificoptica.com/ventana/
We have insurance for shipping for @pacificoptica.bsky.social and the policy covers some unusual topics, but not $10 billion telescopes. www.nasa.gov/universe/how... The logistics are fascinating and include everything from spherical aberration to pirates. www.theatlantic.com/science/arch... (2/2)
