Also if you wanna talk about kids books being “crud,” who are in the majority of kid lit authors? And who are publishing those books. We have studies from the CCBC and from Lee & Low
Maybe instead of shitting on kidlit, he could get off his high horse and fight against HR 7661 or financially defend the librarians getting fired for trying to keep books on shelves. How about trying to help his industry instead of making it easier for book banners to destroy it.
It’s absolutely disrespectful for an author, especially a white man who isn’t up against any of the obstacles his BIPOC & queer counterparts are, to say a majority of kids’ books are “crud.” Now, more than ever, we need leaders in kid lit who care about this age category that is heavily under fire.
