Three days amidst all the historic architectural wonders of York and this was the only decent photo a took. A stratigraphic succession of lovely, weathered hand-made (I assume) bricks.

What is that, lurking in the forest?! Giving serious folk horror vibes, this is the weird carved stone known as 'Le Babouin' (the Baboon) in the woods near Trédion in Brittany. No-one knows who made it, or when, or indeed why. #StandingStoneSunday
I'm at York today for @prehistoricsociety.bsky.social EUROPA 2026, honouring Prof Penny Spikins. What can we learn from Neanderthals. 🏺🦣
Some of the speakers from the @prehistoricsociety.bsky.social conference yesterday. Jenni French, Chris Stringer, Silvia Bello and, the Europa Medallist, Penny Spikins. Such a great day celebrating a great Prehistorian. 🦣🏺

RIP John Blanche, who from the Tolkein Bestiary, through White Dwarf, Citadel Minatures and Oldhammer, did so much to shape and fire my teenage imagination.
