We’re honoring the outstanding contributions Black people have made to our culture through an exclusive collection of insights shared with The Root from some of the most influential Black thought leaders, creatives, and innovators across industries. Here are a few words of wisdom from rapper Smino.
Jeezy says he’s dating himself right now. The Grammy-nominated rapper joined the Today Show on June 2, where he shared details of his upcoming Las Vegas residency, talked parenting, and opened up about self-care and self-love.
He and television personality Jeannie Mai finalized their divorce last year and are reportedly on good terms. Jeezy told The Breakfast Club: “I don’t want no enemies, I don’t want no issues. I just want peace, I just want joy, and I just want freedom. I love my freedom.”
King was one of several locals who raised concerns over unanswered questions in a yearlong investigation into an alleged fraud scheme involving multiple school employees.
King is currently running for Pompano Beach City Commission District 5.
King — the campus director at South Florida Technical College and a principal at the Youth Under Construction school — is the one who brought the case to light. In May 2025, he booked his school’s graduation ceremony at a high school gym, but upon arrival found a basketball tournament taking place.
Two basketball coaches were arrested in December for allegedly renting out gyms for tournaments and then pocketing the money, according to NBC Miami. Other arrests have taken place since.
At this week’s school board meeting, King pointed out social media comments from Rachel Dailey, a real estate and leasing specialist who works on facility rentals for the school system, that he says should be further investigated. King name checked her in his lyrics.
Delvin King is a poet 😌 The Broward County, Florida, resident quoted Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat” — with his own twist, of course — during a school board meeting on June 9.
Jeezy discussed taking moments to reflect while on nature walks and even taking himself out on sushi dates.
