Not sure what this says about me, but I like doing footnotes myself. Brings satisfaction and closure to the research into writing process.

Citation software, like In-text referencing, doesn’t work well for citing historical documents. Manual footnoting can be fiddly, but at least you know all the necessary information is there and correctly laid out.
