The one on the far left references my early work in an Abstract Expressionist vein with an homage to Lee Krasner. Next, a street outside Windsor Castle in England shows my connection to a Western European painting tradition.

Shaping My World. 30 in. x 30 in. oil on wood panel. 2026. This new painting stems from my years of making collages, a process that combines and juxtaposes different realities. The walls as canvases/murals relate to sharing studio walls with other artists. Continued in the comments. #painting
Emphatic brushstrokes give a sense of movement while the circles connect to a series of dot paintings I once made. Also on my mind were Philip Guston’s paintings, which include his studio paraphernalia that I admire. Somehow this amalgam adds up to me.
Paint swatches along the bottom show evidence of making art, and, in combination with the various scenarios in the painting, point to designing one’s own path and making choices as an agent in constructing your perception of the world.
The house in the adjacent scene is my own, the tree functioning both as a celebration of spring and as a kind of figure in which the viewer faces themselves as if in a mirror. This style stems from a New York/East Coast landscape painting tradition, as in the work of Lois Dodd, Fairfield Porter, etc

The imagery on the far right shares elements of the surrealism-influenced work I made in recent years in Miami. Stairs lead to a mysterious, unknowable future while the stripes of yellow and white in the ceiling in the upper left corner seem like hopeful sunrays.
The construction of the painting is a part of the painting, my body standing outside it, reaching into it to pick up and mix the paint from a palette.
