I hope @eddavey.libdems.org.uk is going to have his CK moment, and soon. We desperately need a leader who will stand up and straight out say that racism is wrong, that transphobia is wrong, that all bigotry is wrong. I have enjoyed Cuddly Centrist Dad Ed, but now we need Principles Ed to step up.
I think it's now fair to say that when it comes to trans kids, the NHS is no longer practising medicine. It is the instrument of a transphobic conspiracy theory perpetuated by ideologues and quacks that would rather harm children than see them turn out trans. Despicable. And all Labour's doing.
Believe trans youth.
There is not a good time for forced medical detransition. But, young people were informed yesterday that decision letters would come today. Today is GCSE Maths exam. Tomorrow GCSE English lit exam. The NHS really could not care less for the well-being of these young people.
This guidance is not ready, practical or safe to implement. It risks harm to trans people and their families, pits service users against each other, and leaves providers in an impossible position with inadequate protection from litigation.
Really important to emphasise - they have not been able to find ANY actual harms through a year long investigation. Not one. Instead a load of made up harms including, from today's letters this gem...
I asked what would happen if the Code fails in practice. The EHRC said there would be situations where “people will have great difficulty working with this law and the Code may or may not help them get through it.” That is an extraordinary admission.
(Case notes from when GP took over privately prescribed medication *as told to do so by Streeting in the puberty blocker criminalisation*) fail to show "consideration of the possibility that gender incongruence and distress may be a transient phenomenon which resolves with increasing age".
It's clarifying in the sense that we are well past the point of this being evidence based. This is about hostility to trans people, or at its most charitable, denial of the legitimacy of trans identity.
