The Trump administration has ordered the dismantling of the Ocean Observatories Initiative. The sensors, which began operating in 2016, helped scientists better understand ocean currents, coastal flooding, and marine ecosystems. It was intended to continuously provide data for at least 25 years.
Scientists say there’s no substitute for a network that the administration plans to take down.
