There is literally no incentive to resist any order given to a soldier. I don’t think anyone would be willing to risk *death* at refusing an order.

Same thing as would happen now.
At a minimum, 10 USC chapter 913 article 113: conduct unbecoming an officer. Punishable as a court martial may decide (AKA anything including death, esp. during wartime.)
At worst, desertion or cowardice charges.
