@peterwalker99.bsky.social corrects @wesstreeting who shows his contemptible views of cycling: unable, despite having been told by Lord Whitty and others that Active Travel is necessary for good public health and also fighting Climate Change, which is a defence priority + has economic benefits.
Worrying if this is true.

Very interesting: www.theguardian.com/politics/202... let's see detail tomorrow!
Good that a serious £ figure is mentioned (£4.5 bn, at least in the ball park of what's needed), but the big issue is taking road space from general motor traffic and note @peterwalker99 comment about "stages".
And also: the "£4.5 billion" is £500 million p.a., and so far there's a possibility (please correct me if I'm wrong) that HAs could spend some of it elsewhere e.g. on highway maintenance.

In fact I calculate we could get a whole AT network in England and Wales in 2 parliaments for c.£1 billion p.a.
@ianwalker.bsky.social is absolutely correct.
Also needed are measures we need anyway:
* Unfreezing fuel tax accelerator and significantly increasing cost to driver of driving, especially in urban areas.
* law enforcement and deterrent sentencing.
See bsky.app/profile/chai... plus also note that
