NEW: I sat down with journalist @greenwell.bsky.social —author of Bad Company: Private Equity and the Death of the American Dream.
We talked about what private equity is, why it’s a problem, and why it’s so interested in youth sports and other markets targeting family services.
I appreciate this piece from Peter Greene, which makes some of the same points I have, and adds additional considerations.
In particular the “tiers” is a big one and worth real thought.

Glad to see more attention paid to the huge issue of Trump's terrible school privatization plan.

Some experts believe the ultimate objective of any Texas school district takeover is to disenfranchise local communities.
“It all begins at the school board level to then completely disempower the community,” said NYU professor Domingo Morel.

Will Federal School Vouchers Help Public Schools? www.forbes.com/sites/peterg...
The debate for blue and purple states includes one major question— would the federal vouchers benefit public schools by allowing them to take advantage of a federal revenue stream?
Texas AG Ken Paxton sent a letter to Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark and board of directors chairman Douglas Girod, notifying the league it would be exposed to "substantial liability" if it takes action against Texas Tech for playing Brendan Sorsby.
Prof. Cowen is most knowledgeable on this subject, his “go get the money” points here are well-motivated and he thoughtfully anticipates and addresses many counterpoints.
I’m still unconvinced.
I remain concerned about a point he mentions but doesn’t--for me--convincingly address...

There’s real debate in progressive policy circles about how to handle the fact that public schools and public school families can use the new federal scholarship credit.
For me, it comes down to this: nearly all states will opt in, so go get the money

NEW: a Q&A on the new federal scholarship tax credit.
Public schoolers can use it. School districts can earn revenue.
I’m a voucher critic, but a lot of public school communities will need to do this and I won’t abandon them for the hard, necessary work ahead.

Public school families and public school districts can benefit from a new national program, and it's important to explain how.
