For me, small talk is how you figure out more interesting things to talk about. I’m a little skeptical of hating it vs it being a bit of a dull warm-up we all do. But if you’re going to refuse to do it at all, maybe offer an alternative?
This was probably 3-4 years ago and I’m STILL baffled by it.

*one of the most bizarre experiences re: inability to hold a conversation was when I asked an acquaintance how she was and she made a face and said, “don’t do that.”
I asked what she meant and she said, “I don’t like small talk.”
And then we STOOD IN SILENCE until I walked away.
