The double-edged sword of being the biggest site was that, for a lot of people, "IGN" became synonymous with games journalism in general. So anytime anyone anywhere did anything those people didn't like, it was automatically IGN's fault in their minds.

people will literally be like "this is why IGN reviews are bad" when the guy 1) doesn't work for IGN 2) didn't review Cuphead 3) wasn't incompetent in a way that is reasonable to project onto random other people a 52 YO with three kids playing a video game poorly is just a novelty unto itself
