Followed by this awesome MN report, w/ rustypatch nests in “located in between the foundation and a layer of insulation in an urban residence, in an urban backyard near a house foundation, and in a degraded semi‐wooded, riparian natural area.”

thrilled to report that my impulsive trip to Kalamazoo has successfully balanced out last year's Des Moines trip. Oncemore, Chicago is centered on my inat homepage

My sleep schedule is so messed up from being sick, but I need everyone to wake up NOW so I can talk about the new USFWS rusty patched bumblebee report
I cannot text my PhD student at 5:59am

Bittersweet but still cool, did you know an entire acre of prairie slated to be destroyed was moved to Marquette Park, Chicago?
I've always loved this photo of Ashburn Prairie, grabbing giant chunks of prairie sod to haul away. On one hand it's horrifying, but also cool? Better than nothing, anyway
A lot of the rustypatch conservation is limited because we have very little knowledge of where they nest. Bell Bowl prairie was destroyed with USFWS approval despite rusty presence because we only have published lit of them nesting in forests, not prairies.
