When heart is in a Magic set versus when it is not, it's painfully obvious. Magic is about story and worldbuilding. This is why ATLA and LOTR worked as sets, and why SpiderMan and Marvel do not.
When there is no story, Magic falls flat no matter how cool of a design a card is.
