This summit will bring together leaders from across Canada's #housing system to advocate for what's needed in the renewal of the NHA and identify clear, actionable strategies that serve Canadian households. One thing we're clear on: the right to housing for all needs to be front and centre.
In Toronto later this month? Catch BSH and HRC Director, Dr. Alexandra Flynn in the "Where Must We Go From Here?" session at @canurb.bsky.social's Housing Future Summit on June 22nd.

Who is losing their home in Canada & why? 🏠
Our recent Evictions Research Across Canada book examines the systemic forces pushing renters out of their homes:
💰️ financialized landlords
📊 racial disparities in eviction filings
⚖️ uneven tenant protections
& more
Dig into the research:

1/4 This week, we co-hosted the BC premiere of Thinking Beyond the Market, a documentary on genuinely #affordablehousing. The key takeaway? Solutions to the #housingcrisis are hiding in plain sight, right here in Canada.

2/4 📊 A few numbers worth sitting with:
• #AffordableHousing = no more than 30% of pre-tax income. The market consistently misses this
• Black households = 1.2% of Vancouver's population, but 6–9% of homeless counts
• BC's CHF was rescinded, setting #nonprofit projects back millions
3/4 The panel surfaced 3 levers we already have:
1️⃣Public land: attach affordability conditions instead of selling to the highest bidder
2️⃣#CLTs: permanently remove land from the speculative market
3️⃣#IndigenousLedHousing: MST Development Corporation shows what community-controlled supply can look like
Last month, our Spring Workshop brought together researchers, policymakers & community leaders to discuss truly affordable #housing solutions in Canada.
This is what emerged:
🏠 #FIBI first
📋 Stronger tenant protections
⚖️ Landlord accountability
💸 Stable #nonmarket funding
